Game of the Week: CM-Longmeadow

The rain caused me to shift around some things last week, which is why I ended up in Everett.  Tonight’s game of the week pits one of the best Eastern Mass has to offer against arguably the most storied program in Western Mass.  Catholic Memorial will do battle with Longmeadow tonight at 7 in West Roxbury.   Two quick observations:
  • The Catholic Memorial defense is playing like a slighted unit, and for the most part, they have been.  Most of what you'll hear about is the play making ability of Armani Reeves and the strong arm of AJ Doyle.  But this defense has quietly formed into one of the more consistent the state has to offer.  Through their first 4, they’ve held opponents to 14, 0, 21, and 14 again.  And they have yet to play a cupcake.  Tonight they get another tough test, as Longmeadow is traditionally a big team size wise, but there is no reason to believe the Knights won’t be up to the challenge.
  • After getting pelted by SJ Shrewsbury in week two, Longmeadow looks like itself again.  Look for the Lancers to try and grind out methodical drives behind their large and disciplined o-line.  For them to upset CM, they’ll need to control the clock and wear down what has been a surprisingly stout defense.
