ADFC Individual Awards Finalists

Lots of tough decisions, but below we announce the 14 guys in the running for our three individual awards.  Our winners will be released after 2010 state champions are crowned.

ADFCredzone Player of the Year
  • Nick LeSpada, QB/DB, Billerica*
    • No other player comes close to putting up the kind of offensive numbers LeSpada does.  He is able to march his team down the field one minute, then pick off a pass and take it back for a score the next.  Maybe the most electrifying player to come out of Massachusetts in the last decade.
  • Manny Asprilla, WR/RB/DB, Everett
    • Asprilla has shown that he must be accounted for at all times, as he has scored offensive, defensive, and special teams touchdowns this year.
  • Albert Louis-Jean, WR/DB, Brockton
    • You don't get a scholarship to Tha U without being dominant, and that is exactly what Louis-Jean has been.  He is always a threat to score on offense, and he takes away an entire side of the field when on defense.
  • Tyllor McDonald, QB/DB, Lynn English
    • McDonald has been the most consistent player on a Lynn English team that has shown signs on greatness, but hasn't been able to put it all together.  Not only is he their most dangerous offensive weapon, but he is also their best corner, and an explosive punt returner.
  • Jordan Shairs, RB/LB, Gloucester
    • Shairs has more than earned his nickname, "The Beast."  He is a hard hitting linebacker that has helped his defense hold opponents to 11.7 points per game, but his most impressive work has been on offense, where he has scored a whopping 27 touchdowns.
ADFCredzone Offensive Player of the Year
  • Nick LeSpada, QB, Billerica*
    • Key Stats - 39 total touchdowns (23 passing, 15 rushing, 1 receiving); six games of four or more touchdowns; responsible for 90% of team's touchdowns; seven scores of 30-plus yards; has more touchdowns than 10 other Division 1 schools have totaled all season (Chelmsford, Central Catholic, Lowell, Medford, Somerville, Cambridge, Malden, Durfee, New Bedford, Brockton)
  • Tyllor McDonald, QB, Lynn English
    • Key Stats - 27 total touchdowns (12 passing, 14 rushing, 1 punt return); three games of four or more touchdowns; 90 yard punt return is the longest in Division 1A this year; 11 scores of 30 or more yards
  • Trae Weathers, RB, Revere
    • Key Stats - 26 total touchdowns (23 rushing, 1 receiving, 1 interception return, 1 kickoff return); 10 scores of 30 or more yards; eight touchdowns of 50 yards or more
  • John DiBiaso, QB, Everett*
    • Key Stats - 36 total touchdowns (32 passing, 4 rushing); has single-handily outscored every other GBL team;  six games of four or more touchdowns; 11 scores of 30 or more yards
ADFCredzone Defensive Player of the Year
  • Chris Tamasi, LB, Xaverian
    • Fast, aggressive, smart, disciplined.  Tamasi has put the Hawks right where they want to be: a winner-take-all battle with hated rival St. John's Prep in Thanksgiving.
  • Albert Louis-Jean, DB, Brockton
    • He doesn't have a ton of gaudy stats, but that's only because teams know to stay away from him.  Also is one of the hardest hitters around.
  • Shaquille Taylor, DL, Everett
    • Perhaps the most dominant defensive lineman in the state, Taylor is able to free up Everett's phenomenal linebackers by demanding a double team.
  • Obum Obukwelu, DE, BC High
    • It's been an up and down season for the Eagles, but Obukwelu has consistently been a handful for opponents, at times being downright un-blockable.
  • Tim Joy, LB, Chelmsford*
    • Joy is the only underclassmen on this list, and rightfully so.  If he adds size, he'll be holding multiple offers this time next year.
*Denotes Underclassman
