3rd and Long

Thoughts from last week's Pats-Bills game...
  • The defensive backfield is more of an issue than initially expected.  Name the Bills wide receivers in under 5 seconds.  Now try and name the Benglas. And jets.  My point is that receiving corp, coupled with quite possibly the worst offensive line in the NFL (or the SEC for that matter) should not have been able to have that kind of production.  CJ Spiller had a career day, but that should have been the extent of the Bills offensive success.
  • Adding to the Patriots defensive problems is their inability to tackle.  Much of the Bills total yards came after first contact, with Marshawn Lynch looking like his old self (and making himself that much more appealing to the Packers).  It's one thing not to be able to stop the pass.  It's another not to be able to do one of the more fundamental things in the game.
  • The Pats not only had their best offensive rushing game of the season, they also racked up more rushing yards last week than in 14 of their 17 games last year.  And while their opponent was in fact the Bills, there is still something to be said about offensive balance.
